Cold Sweat-in New Zealand

The date of my return from NZ was suddenly extended, and a hotel for the day? The local staff arranged a hotel for the day.
I took the liberty of thinking that it was impossible to book a hotel on short notice, at least a motel, but I thought I had made a reservation.
I thought it would be easy to find with all the signs out there. At night, after work, I was told it was a guest house.
I set my cell phone's Google navigation system in my car. As we neared our destination, my phone, which had been acting up for some time, shut down. The Wi-Fi I had brought with me was also out of range.
The area is pitch black. We were completely isolated. I don't even remember the way back to the office. I can't even use the phone.
We had no choice but to search for a private home, remembering the screen just before the navigation system disappeared. We left the car on the way and walked on foot to find the address in the pitch dark.
Finally, I found a place, but there was no sign. There was no electricity. Fearfully, I rang the chime, but no one answered. The door was closed. Of course, no one was passing by.
Did I mishear the address? and pondering, preparing to sleep in the car.
How do you deal with situations like this?
The result was that they were able to stay there, but the chimes were broken.
Half moon bay in NZ.

Finally, a private home to find and stay in.
Finally, I found and stayed in a private home - private accommodation.
