Q. What is the difference between National Health Insurance and Travel Insurance?

Unlike "health insurance (National Health Insurance)," overseas travel insurance and reverse overseas travel insurance (insurance while staying in Japan) cover only accidents and illnesses that occur during travel. Also, unlike health insurance, travel insurance does not cover 30% or 20% of the cost.

Q. I would like to have a medical checkup during my stay in Japan.

Neither health insurance nor travel insurance covers medical examinations.

Q. The above states that "neither health insurance nor travel insurance covers medical examinations." Does travel insurance not cover medical examinations "if I feel sick and go to a hospital for a checkup"?

Travel insurance covers "injuries and illnesses while traveling". In other words, if you get sick or injured, see a doctor and receive treatment at a hospital, your travel insurance will cover it. However, dental and pre-existing conditions are not covered. Incidentally, travel insurance cannot cover medical examinations because medical examinations are "for the purpose of early detection of illness or prevention of illness, not for treatment.

Q. Are all illnesses contracted during the trip covered?

Illnesses that have a cause of onset during the period of travel are covered, but not if they had a cause prior to the trip.

Q. I want to have my teeth fixed during my stay in Japan.

Travel insurance and general insurance policies do not cover you unless there is an accidental nature. As a general rule, dental treatment is not covered if the symptoms existed prior to the trip and the cavity does not suddenly become painful. However, if there was an accident such as a broken tooth caused by a ball hitting a catch, it would be covered.

Q. I want to have cataract or LASIK surgery during my stay in Japan.

Q. During my stay in Japan, I caught a cold and had diarrhea because the food was not suitable for me.

Q. My family is planning to return to Japan. Can my children join?

The age of the insured (person to be insured) can be any age as long as the policyholder is at least 18 years old.

Q. Is there any discount if I sign a contract at the right time?

There is no such thing as an early bird discount contract.

Q. For family members, is it "one security" per person?

Coverage varies from policy to policy. For example, TOKIO OMOTENASHI POLICY does not include coverage, but reverse overseas travel insurance does. It is included in the set.

Q. I am currently living in New York. I will temporarily return to Japan for three weeks in the winter and then move to a different state in the United States. If I need to see a dentist or dermatologist during my temporary return to Japan, will I be covered by travel insurance in the U.S.? If you are purchasing travel insurance in the U.S., please check with your insurance company to be sure. As a general rule, our travel insurance does not cover dentists or dermatologists. However, if the accidental nature of the injury is covered, such as skin irritation due to weeding, it will be covered.

You can subscribe to TOKIO OMOTENASHI POLICY" can be applied for up to 5 days after entry into Japan. In the case of "Reverse Overseas Travel Insurance", you can purchase it if you are a "resident of Japan over 18 years old and there is no restriction of 5 days after entry into Japan.

Application for Insurance

Q. Can I apply after I enter Japan?

TOKIO OMOTENASHI POLICY can be applied for up to 5 days from the date of entry. From China, Hong Kong, and Korea, you can apply one month in advance. The maximum period of insurance is 31 days, so please choose the insurance policy that best fits your schedule.

Q. Are there any documents required?

Since this is a travel insurance procedure, a "copy of the first page of your passport with your face photo " and "Confirm stamp of entry date A copy of the page" is required. If you have already passed through the automated gate and do not have an entry stamp, a copy of your flight ticket is acceptable.

If you are "not yet in the country", there is no entry stamp in your passport, in which case we would appreciate a copy of your flight ticket.

Q. What is the difference between "overseas travel insurance" and "reverse overseas travel insurance"?

Each travel insurance policy covers different people. The insurance for people traveling abroad from Japan is overseas travel insurance. And insurance for people traveling (or temporarily returning) to Japan from abroad is "reverse overseas travel insurance". Please check our service information for a catalog of PDF documents.

Q. What are the different types of "reverse overseas travel insurance"?

The "TOKIO OMOTENASHI POLICY" and "reverse overseas travel insurance" for a minimum of 1 day to a maximum of 3 months (maximum of 6 months for Japanese). Each has different "coverage/premium/payment methods" and requires different information for application. Please select the coverage that best suits your needs.

Q. Are there any requirements to be eligible for reverse overseas travel insurance?

Reverse Overseas Travel Insurance requires that the policyholder be a resident of Japan and at least 18 years old. The relationship to the insured person must be parent, child, sibling, relative, or acquaintance who can receive the application by mail, sign the application form, and transfer the premium. Application can be made either after or before entry into Japan. The insurance period is up to 6 months for Japanese nationals and up to 3 months for overseas nationals.

Q. What are the policy plans that I can apply for for reverse overseas travel insurance?

The list includes several policy types for each amount of coverage, but please choose one of the "N4/M2/Q2" types. The policy type "L3/L2/P3" requires the signature of the insured (person to be insured).

Q. What is the difference between TOKIO OMOTENASHI POLICY and reverse overseas travel insurance?

TOKIO OMOTENASHI POLICY (Click here to apply)

The insurance period is up to 31 days. Coverage is limited to 10 million yen for medical expenses for illness and injury. Corporate policies are not available (individual policies only). Application must be made within 5 days after entry into Japan (per person). There are no paper certificates. Application must be made in person via cell phone and can be completed on the web. The website where the application is made is available in English, Chinese, and Korean, and there is no Japanese language section. Because coverage is limited, premiums are less expensive than reverse overseas travel insurance. Premiums are flat regardless of age.

The subscriber must be at least 18 years of age. If two family members wish to apply for the same account, please complete the application process twice. In this case, you will need to apply for the first family member after you have applied for the second family member.

Reverse overseas travel insurance (Click here to apply)

The period of insurance is from 1 day to 3 months (6 months for Japanese). In addition to medical treatment expenses, coverage is provided for death, permanent disability, compensation accident, and personal belongings as a set. The policyholder must be a resident of Japan and 18 years of age or older, and the insured (person to be insured) must be a person visiting or returning to Japan. To apply, fill out the exclusive form and we will send you a temporary application form by e-mail. We will then send you the application form by mail after we have received your confirmation. Please note that the application must be submitted within 5 days of your arrival in Japan. The language is Japanese. The mail exchange is required, and the premiums vary depending on the age of the applicant.

Payment of Premiums

Q. I would like to know the time of payment regarding premiums at the time of application process.

Premiums are paid by credit card through the insurance company's application. If the application is made in Japan, payment can be made on the same day. The insurance will start on the day after the date of application or the date of entry into Japan, whichever is later.

Reverse overseas travel insurance (Click here to apply)

Premiums must be transferred to the insurance company by the customer. However, insurance companies cannot confirm payment on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays. Also, please note that it takes some time to enroll in the insurance because the application form needs to be sent by mail.

After Insurance Coverage

Q. Is there a problem if I depart earlier than the policy period date?

If your travel insurance policy is in force from May 25 to May 31, May 24 will not be included in the coverage. For example, if you leave your home on May 24 and stay overnight before the trip because the airport is far away, it will not be covered.

Q. What should I do if I have an accident or become ill?
