There are two major types of insurance that overseas residents can purchase when temporarily returning to Japan: 1. national health insurance and 2. reverse overseas travel insurance. However, it is important to note that if you do not have health insurance, you will receive free medical treatment and the cost of treatment will be higher. In this respect, if you have reverse overseas travel insurance, you can rest assured that you will be covered in case of any problems. If you do not have any insurance, you will be considered "uninsured.
